Tips to keep your Mani / nail extension lasting long
1. Avoid using alcohol based hand sanitizer
Hand hygiene is very important during these times but the alcohol that is in most sanitizers strip the moisture from your hands and your nails causing them to be brittle and susceptible to breaking. This is also true for the polish, the alcohol will reduce the longevity of the polish - especially regular polish. Shellac/Gel polish have a protective top layer that helps but alcohol will do damage to it as well.
Avoid using alcohol based sanitizer. Wash your hands or use alcohol free sanitizer instead.
2. Use cuticle oil to protect your nails from too much moisture
Washing your hands is effective to stop the spread of COVID but it's additional moisture that your nails and polish are absorbing making them softer and more likely to break and chip.
Using cuticle oils on your fingers will help form a protective barrier and prevent too much moisture from being absorbed. It is recommended to apply some cuticle oil before washing your hands.
Plus this is a great excuse to get a hand massage daily ;-)
Always wear gloves while washing dishes to protect your nails from moisture and harmful detergent.
3. Keep your hands and nails healthy
For polish or nail extensions to last long, it needs a good base. If your hands and nails are dry then your manicure or nail extensions will more likely crack, chip or lift. Keeping your hands and nails healthy should be part of your daily routine which includes moisturizer for your hand and cuticle oil for your fingers.
4.Don't use your nails for certain tasks
Try to avoid using your nails to open a can of pop, opening mail, opening cartons, etc. These tasks can cause chips to your polish or put additional pressure on your nail extensions that can cause lifting.
